Welcome to the Miss Washtenaw County Pageant family and congratulations on taking your first step towards the title of Miss America 2026! Our pageant will be held at the Washington Street Education Center Auditorium on Sunday October 6, 2024. We are very excited for the upcoming year and that you want to become a contestant for the title of Miss Washtenaw County!
Participating in a Miss America Local Preliminary is a wonderful and unique experience. You will gain poise and confidence, hone your interview and public speaking skills, make many new friends, and become a part of the largest scholarship organization for young women in the nation. Our Executive Board and committee members work all year, to make this experience and scholarship money available to you. Along with all that you will gain by becoming a contestant, there are certain expectations of you. The best time to begin your preparation is now. Fall brings with it a return to school, homework, exams, and new activities. Please take this into consideration as you make your decision. By sending your application in you are making a commitment to the Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Program. Once applications are received much preliminary work is completed to accommodate you. Program book layout is done, schedules for interviews, and judges paperwork and notebooks are printed. The time to make a thoughtful decision as to whether or not you will compete is before you send your application in!
The Miss Washtenaw County Pageant has a minimal number of rehearsals to make it easier for you and thus each meeting is crucial to our success. We ask that you be respectful of your fellow Contestants and our staff by honoring your commitment. Orientation is a relaxed gathering and an informational meeting. It is our chance to get acquainted and for you to meet the other contestants. It is also your opportunity to learn more about the Miss America Opportunity and the Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Program as well as the rules that will govern our competition. Parents or friends are welcome to attend with you.
All Contestant entry requirements are detailed in the Eligibility Requirements document. Supporting documentation is detailed in the CY 2026 Application and Agreement for Delegate and Titleholder Participation in the Miss America Opportunity. Before orientation you will need to be registered to participate in MAO and have posted your $30 local donation to Miss America 2026 Gor Red for Women Contest and Fundraiser. All information and links for MAO Registration and Go Red for Women Fundraiser is detailed in the Eligibility Requirements tab on our website.
Because of all of the changes to becoming a contestant I have added an optional information session before orientation. It will be held on Thursday evening 8/29/2024. My goal is to answer questions, provide feedback and advice. I want each of you to feel comfortable with choosing to participate and give you the tools you need to be successful and not stressed in the process.
Our new Miss Washtenaw will have a year of opportunities ahead of her. She will become our representative throughout the community as well as being our representative at the Miss Michigan Pageant to be held in Muskegon June 16-21, 2025. The title of Miss Washtenaw County is a job. While the year of service is an incredible experience for a young woman, it also comes with the expectation that she will honor her commitment to this organization and to the sponsors that support us. Miss Washtenaw’s appearance schedule will be tailored to fit her own schedule. Miss Washtenaw County must be available for all activities and preparations leading up to the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant. The Executive Board will help her develop her Service Initiative and prepare for all areas of competition. Miss Washtenaw is also expected to participate at the events preceding and to perform at our 2025 Pageant. If you become our new Miss Washtenaw County, plan to be available the day after the pageant to meet with the Executive Director and begin plans for the exciting year ahead.
We look forward to having you participate with us and to meeting you at orientation. Please feel free to contact me, by phone or email, with any questions or for advice. Best wishes with your preparations, have fun, and Good Luck!
